Finishing up

The difficult decision at the moment is whether or not I am finished with the “Tattoo Girls” oil painting. The problem is that I can still see many areas that can be improved, but I’m not really wanting to work on it any more. I have a day off tomorrow so I will see after a good night’s sleep if I want to work on it further. But it’s quite possible that I will call this one complete….finally.

I think I painted for 3 or 4 hours this evening. Then I began setting up lights, white boards, and the camera to practice taking good high quality photos. The oil will need to dry for a few weeks before I take the final pictures because right now there’s some glare. After I get those final pictures taken, I’ll apply the varnish, let it dry for 2-3 more days, then take it down to Suzie for framing.

Taking the pictures tonight was fun, and they turned out pretty good. I’m confidant I’ll be able to make my own prints. The deadline is approaching for this year’s Artist magazine art competition. It’s hard to believe it’s been a year already since I entered my “Steampunk” painting. I didn’t place last year and I doubt I’ll place this year either, but I still have fun entering. I guess it helps me feel a little more part of the art world. Sometimes I feel so isolated out here in Fallon, Nevada.
