SOME COMPLETIONS

I do dumb things sometimes.

Yesterday I decided the painting was dry enough to varnish. I was almost correct. I started at the top and began painting on the Gamvar varnish. All was going well until I got to the very bottom. I swiped the brush right over my signature and my name came right off. Oops. I guess that part wasn’t dry.

Next dumb thing: After entering my drawings of the Nepalese girl and the Canadian boy into the new Shades of Gray art competition, I read the rules and found out they don’t qualify. You see I purchased licenses from a stock photo site thinking that would give me permission to use the photos as reference for my drawings and everything would be just swell. The rules of the competition state that those types of instances are not allowed. So I basically threw away $60 in entry fees (the site offers no means of contacting anyone).

I finished a pencil drawing today of the little girl who came over for the photo shoot last week, so I went ahead and entered that drawing into the competition since it is 100% my own work from start to finish.

This morning I painted my name back onto the painting. I put on one more coat of varnish and avoided the fresh paint. The painting looks so much better with the gloss varnish on it. My only letdown of the whole thing is all the little hairs that got trapped in the paint during the last 5 weeks of creating this piece of art.

Note to self – don’t paint in a house where two very hairy cats dwell. I will have to move my setup out to my shop probably for the next painting. Live and learn.
