THE PROCESS OF CREATION

I can’t just sit down and start painting. My process doesn’t work like that.

I need a goal first. The goal provides direction.

Any atelier will tell you that to be a great painter, you need to have great drawing skills. Drawing develops one’s ability to see and understand form, the fall of light, and the casting of shadows – all essential elements for creating realistic paintings.

During my quest to improve my drawing skills, I knew I would eventually need some good ideas for paintings. The interesting thing was that at the time, I didn’t have any ideas. I simply made a mental note of the goal that needed achieving, and within a few days, an idea popped into my head for a series of paintings I could do that felt fresh and original.

I texted a former client and asked if she’d be interested in posing for the first painting. She agreed, so the next step will be setting up the photo shoot to get the reference pics.
